The Van Gogh House in New-Amsterdam/Veenoord is the only public accessible Home in the Netherlands where one of the most famous artist in the world, Vincent van Gogh, lived and worked.
In 1883 Vincent worked and lived for 2 months at the inn as a base for his expeditions throughout the peat area. His goal was to paint the 'ordinary' man, especially the cottars. At the Van Gogh house you can see his room where, his bed is at the same place, his drawing box opened and his paint palette ready to be used. Maybe Van Gogh went on a long walk through the peat, it's almost as he can come back any second...
U can watch a movie which takes you back to 1883. You look through the eyes of Vincent van Gogh to the Southeast part of Drenthe. Experience the peace and the beautifull areas of Drenthe, like the painter has written in his letters. With his drawings, paintings and letters, Vincent van Gogh has preserved a bit of history of Drenthe long before photography did find his way to Drenthe.
